Liverpool Directions

The community's views on the future of Liverpool, Liverpool Directions 2006-2016,was endorsed by Council on 10 April 2006.

About 1,500 Liverpool residents, workers, students and visitors have been directly involved in developing Liverpool Directions including more than 1,000 people who completed Auspoll and Partnership Project surveys.

Liverpool Directions will be used by Council in planning for the future of the City. Council's Corporate Plan, directly responds to the directions outlined in the document.

You can download a copy of Liverpool Directions in English, Serbian, Vietnamese and Arabic.

Further work is needed to engage with other agencies and community organisations active in Liverpool to promote the delivery of community directions that are outside the direct responsibility of Council.

Some of the key directions the community has expressed in the document include:

  • An accessible, family-friendly City Centre offering opportunities for an active social and cultural life for all age groups
  • Enhancing the City Centre's strong medical and education precincts, increasing the city's tourist potential and creating more jobs
  • Improved access to the Georges River from the City Centre
  • Better integrated public transport with easy access to major centres
  • Improved planning of areas to allow the character and heritage of existing suburbs to guide new development
  • The city's natural areas will be cleaner, healthier and more widely enjoyed as places for recreation
  • Diversity will continue to be respected and celebrated through community events and programs
Council decision-making on Liverpool will be visible, open to participation and accompanied by practical steps enabling everyone's involvement
  • Community, business and government will promote sustainability.
