Local Ethnic Affairs Priorities Statement

Liverpool City Council is committed to our culturally diverse community and providing services that will meet their needs. Council has developed a LEAPS Taskforce made up of staff and two community representatives to look at our LEAPS Policy and develop activities that we can undertake to assist the local community in accessing our services.

Council's LEAPS Policy identified the following outcomes that Council wishes to achieve between 2005-2009:

  1. Liverpool City Council and communities from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds in Liverpool enjoy mutual respect for each other;
  2. Council's services, facilities and programs are widely known and accessed by Liverpool residents who come from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds;
  3. Liverpool residents from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds participate actively in Council initiatives, processes and activities;
  4. The Liverpool community values and respects the cultural diversity and the similarities of its people;
  5. Local services are better able to meet the needs of communities from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds in Liverpool; and
  6. Local communities from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds are better able to meet their own needs.
  7. Council's LEAPS Action Plan outlines the strategies and activities that Council will implement to meet its desired LEAPS outcomes.
