Liverpool Celebrates 200 years at Town Crier Auditions
The search for the Bicentenary Town Crier began with a musical performance, followed by fantastic auditions at Macquarie Street Mall in Liverpool.
Auditions began, as crowds gathered to watch the contestant’s belt out their speeches and give a loud ring of the Town Crier bell.
The Town Crier is part of our history and forms a component of our bicentenary celebrations.
Judges Stephen Dobell-Brown, Councillor Gary Lucas, Matthew Walsh and Mayor Wendy Waller assessed the candidates on their voice clarity, creativity and presentation.
The contestants included Peter Stephens and Ewan Campbell, who were creative, well presented and captured the audience and the attention of the judge’s.
The Town Crier will attend various civic and community events during Liverpool’s Bicentennial year and make public announcements. The Official Town Crier Graham Keating was at the event as an advisor to the judges and he warmed the crowd with his humour and Town Crier expertise.
Channel nine filmed and put together an entertaining snapshot of the day encouraging the contestants to give it their best. Channel nine introduced Mayor Wendy Waller as she announced the winner of the Town Crier auditions to be Ewan Campbell.
