Weekly recycling collection service
Liverpool residents are provided with two recycling crates. The blue crate is for paper and cardboard and the black crate is for all other recyclable material.
These crates are picked up alternatively on the same day as your garbage service; one week the blue crate, next week the black crate. Council provides a recycling calendar to residents each December highlighting when each crate is collected.
- Put your crate out at the kerb with your garbage bin the night before to ensure collection
- Leave one metre between crate and bin
- After collection, return the crate to your property.
If your service was missed, or there are problems with your crates, please phone our contractor Remondis on 1800 234 733.

Weekly Waste Collection Service
Units with limited space may have a more frequent collection.
Please:
- Place your garbage bin close to the kerb, with wheels on far side of bin from the kerb
- Place your garbage bin and scheduled recycling crate out the night before for collection
- Leave one metre between the bin and the crate.
Please do not:
- Park cars blocking access to your bin, or place your bin out where it is blocked behind a parked car or tree, as it may not be picked up
- Overload your garbage bin, as excessive weight may damage your bin and the collection truck (Bins that weigh more than 60kg will not be collected).

Commercial waste
Local Approvals Policy for Waste placed in a Public Place
Liverpool City Council has developed a Local Approvals Policy for Waste Placed in a Public Place. This policy establishes guidelines for the storing of waste generated from commercial/retail (non-residential) premises. The policy aims to reduce odours, rats, cockroaches and pollution. This will result in cleaner streets and businesses in Liverpool City.
The complete policy is available for download in PDF form. You can also download the Dealing with Commercial Waste in Liverpool Brochure.

Commercial Waste Container Requirements
Commercial Waste now needs to be containerised in a bin acceptable to Council with the following specifications:
- You can use mobile garbage bins (maximum 240 litres in size) with a tightly fitting lid and a smooth internal and external washable surface
- The bins need to be kept in good repair at all times. If the container is damaged it should be repaired or replaced
- The bins need to be permanently labelled with the waste generator's business name and address, waste contractor's name and an all hours telephone contact number.
Note: Council will permit larger waste containers instead of 240 litre bins as long as the container is able to be safely placed in a public place during the evening for the following service day and removed from a public place in accordance with Council's policy.
The location of the container must not disturb traffic flow, impede or endanger pedestrian movement, restrict driver sight lines or vehicle access. You must also ensure that:
- Your waste storage bins are not to be placed in front of the premises of others (without their written consent) or fire doors and other exits
- Noise and vibration pertaining to direct and indirect activities associated from the waste pick-up service shall not give rise to offensive noise as defined under the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997.

Bin use

- Waste is placed in sealed plastic bags wholly within the bin
- Bin is not used for the storage of hazardous, liquid or clinical waste
- Bin is vermin-proof, has a closed tight fitting lid and is secured with an appropriate locking device at all times
- Bin does not cause air pollution (as defined under the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997) or result in the emission of gases, vapours, dusts or other impurities which are a nuisance, injurious or prejudicial to health
- Bin is cleaned on a regular basis without draining into Council's stormwater system. All waste-water should be directed into Sydney Water's sewage system.
- Bin does not cause or contribute to water pollution or pollution of waters (as defined under the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997) at any time.

Enforcement
An authorised officer of Council has at any time the right to direct the waste generator to place the waste container in a position deemed appropriate by the authorised officer, so as to comply with all conditions contained in the policy. The waste generator shall comply with the directions of the authorised officer immediately. Fines of up to $2,200 can be issued for each offence.
