Community 2168 small grants program

Applications have now closed for the Community 2168 small grants program 2010 - 2011.

 

 

The Community 2168 small grants program was delivered to assist local residents and community groups to develop projects that benefit the community in the 2168 postcode area. The program looked at funding projects which might:

  • Build local skills and/or job opportunities
  • Provide opportunities for young people in the area
  • Address local health or community care needs
  • Build community connections
  • Improve feelings of community safety
  • Improve local amenity (how the area looks).

 

The 2168 Small Grants Program has been delivered since 2007.

The successful projects for 2010 - 2011 are:

 

2168 Youth Ambassador Project

2168 Resident (auspiced by Liverpool District Neighbourhood Associations - $5,000
This Project will deliver youth leadership training. Two young people from each suburb of 2168 will be selected to receive leadership training and to work on a join project to be delivered for the community and to create pathways with other leadership opportunities such as Liverpool Youth Council.

 

Koori Kids Exhibition Space PCYC - Liverpool
2168 Volunteer / Teacher and Liverpool PCYC - $4,500

The funding will go toward engaging Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal young people to develop an Aboriginal youth arts exhibition space at PCYC. Project will deliver an Aboriginal art workshop, Dharug language workshop to name the space, creation of the exhibition space and a launch event.

 

Miller Schools Group - Beat It Out - Percussion and Multimedia Performance
Miller Technology High School - $5,000

The funding will go toward providing skill development opportunities for young people at Miller Tech High School, Cartwright and Miller Public Schools in percussion and performance. The project will develop a group of young people who will perform at events across the Liverpool LGA.

 

Voices United
The HUB- $4,700
The funding will go toward forming a local choir and deliver weekly practice sessions for residents of all ages to be involved to combat isolation and promote Miller in the wider Liverpool area.

 

2168 Community Garden Art Revitalisation Project
2168 Organic Community Garden and Orchard (auspiced by Miller Technology High School) - $5,000
The project will deliver a series of public art and craft workshops for 2168 organic gardeners, students, parents and teachers at MTHS as a way of beautifying the community garden located at the school. It will create a space where people can enjoy the outdoor art, relax, socialise and feel safe. The garden is open to the public and is used by residents across 2168.

 

Health and Wellbeing Initiative
Westside Youth Centre (Liverpool District Neighbourhood Centres Association) - $1,500
The project targets young people in the area to enhance health and wellbeing through practical workshops including physical activity (sport) and nutrition (cooking). Sporting activities will be ongoing beyond the project period.

 

Celebrating Life... Promoting Wellbeing in Community 2168
Ashcroft High School and Miller TAFE Outreach - $4,300
The project will deliver a ‘high tea’ event to engage community leaders and service providers with local residents. It will also deliver an ongoing ‘coffee club’ where local women meet, receive training and information sessions, socialise, and develop leadership skills through organising events and activities for the wider community.
