Construction of amenities building – Macleod Park, Prestons

10 April 2018

Liverpool City Council will be constructing a new amenities building at Macleod Park. Part of this work requires in-ground services to be extended to connect to the new building.

As a precaution, Council undertook an investigation of the material to be excavated which found two small pieces of asbestos below the surface soil.

There was no surface asbestos found and therefore there is no risk to adjoining residents and current users of the park.

Council nonetheless took the following precautions to ensure excavation works could be safely undertaken:

  • All excavated waste was classified as special waste – asbestos waste;
  • All work is being undertaken by a specialist contractor with qualifications to undertake the work with the site fenced off; and
  • The work is being monitored by an environmental consultant.

Residents adjacent to the construction site have been notified.
