Liverpool’s Australia Day celebrations have something for everyone

11 January 2018

Woodward Park is the place to be this Australia Day, 26 January, as Liverpool City Council hosts a huge day of family entertainment across three stages, with performances by The Voice winner Alfie Arcuri, carnival rides, food trucks, a My Kitchen Rules cook-off, and a massive fireworks display.

Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said the event at Woodward Park had something for everyone.

“Australia Day is an opportunity for all Australians to unite and celebrate the wonderful country we live in; it’s also a day for us to reflect on the rich indigenous heritage of our country.

“I am proud to present such a great line-up of performers this year, especially Alfie Arcuri, whose soulful vocals won him The Voice in 2016.

“Alfie will be supported on the Inglis Riverside Stables Main Stage by local talents Lara Dabbagh and Dani Madeline, as well as Oscar Kami & Uptown Funk.

“The kids’ stage will feature performances by The Trolls, Wild Aussies Waterworld, The Ultimate Magic Show and more, while the Outback Arena will come alive with sheep shearing demonstrations, whip cracking and dog high jump.

Mayor Waller encouraged the whole community to come along to the family-friendly event, which runs from 2pm-9pm on Friday 26 January.

“In 2017 we had more than 20,000 people enjoy the fun and this year we are expecting even more people.

“The MC for the day will be Fast Ed from Better Homes and Gardens and we have two teams from My Kitchen Rules who will be staging a cooking competition on the day: brothers Josh and Nic versus sisters Jess and Emma.

“There will be a huge variety of food available to satisfy all tastes and appetites with delicious cuisines celebrating Australia's cultural diversity.

“I encourage everyone to come along and enjoy the day out – and don’t miss the spectacular fireworks display at 9pm.”

A separate Australia Day Awards and citizenship ceremony will be held at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, hosted by SBS News presenter Ricardo Goncalves.
