The Liverpool LGA contains a number of creeks and rivers. There are two rivers including the Hawkesbury Nepean River and Georges River, and a number of smaller waterways including creeks, lakes and wetlands flow into these large rivers.
Wetlands are important because they can help improve water quality. Every time it rains, stormwater collected from roof gutters, paved areas and streets flow through pipes which discharge into our local waterways. This water is untreated and can be polluted. The wetlands help filter the pollution out of the water before it flows on.
