Liverpool City Council's commitment to providing for the needs of people with a disability in our community is reflected in Council's Aged and Disability program.

This commitment is shown by:

  • Consulting with people with a disability and identifying needs in the Liverpool area with a view to resolution 
  • Implementing initiatives for those with disabilities identified in Liverpool City Council's Community Strategic Plan, Growing Liverpool 2021 
  • Supporting local service providers and networks

Council is currently collating the data collected from the survey and this information will be used to provide input into Council's Disability Action Plan.

Liverpool Access Committee 
 
The Access Committee meets on the second Thursday of each month to address issues affecting disabled access in Liverpool.  These issues may include footpaths, car parks, public facilities etc.

Membership of the Access Committee is open to people with disabilities or representatives of people with disabilities and is convened by Council's Community Development Worker (Aged and Disability).  As a committee of Council, elected Council members are also part of the committee.

The Access Committee can help you if you are experiencing access difficulties due to a disability or if you have identified a barrier to access. You can make contact with the Committee in order to have these matters discussed and addressed.

DISABILITy ACTION PLAN 2004 - 2009 

Liverpool City Council is committed to eliminating discrimination against people with disabilities.

Council has produced the Disability Action Plan as a significant step towards meeting its obligations to people with a disability, under the Commonwealth Disability Discrimination Act, 1992 and provisions of the NSW Local Government Act, 1993.

The Disability Action Plan was endorsed by Council on 23 February 2004 and publicly launched on 14 April 2004. The Plan incorporates Council's commitment to improving access through the delivery of information, services and facilities to the community. To download a copy, please click on Liverpool Disability Action Plan 2004-2009.

The current Disability Action Plan is under review and is expected to be released by June 2012. The community will be consulted regarding input into the plan. See above for information on the Disability Action Plan Survey.

Liverpool Mobility Map 

Council has developed a Mobility Map for the Liverpool City Centre. This map highlights the location of accessible parking, accessible toilets and other important facilities. The map uses symbol keys to indicate locations and individual access features.

South West Sydney Ageing and Disability Forum 

Liverpool City Council supports and resources the Ageing and Disability Forum. The Forum is a meeting for all ageing and disability services in Bankstown, Fairfield and Liverpool, that meets monthly for the purpose of sharing information, identifying home and community care service needs and lobbying for improvements to service delivery.

It aims to provide an environment of mutual support, co-operation, networking and information sharing for ageing and disability and ageing and disability related services providers and to be a voice for the needs of the Bankstown, Fairfield and Liverpool target group.

Forum objectives:

  • To provide the opportunity for ageing and disability related service providers to advocate/lobby on issues of concern for the target group
  • To identify gaps in services for the target group in South West Sydney and make recommendations to relevant government bodies
  • To provide an opportunity to identify and co-ordinate training opportunities
  • To facilitate and coordinate regional planning with the aim of making recommendations to the Department of Family & Community Services NSW, Ageing Disability and Home Care (ADHC) and other relevant bodies regarding funding needs for consideration in future planning
  • To provide opportunities for discussion of issues affecting the target group, services and the industry in order to consider courses of action
  • To work on coordinated projects that will address issues affecting the target group in the region.

Council's Aged and Disability Worker works in partnership with local services to ensure that the needs of older people and people with a disability are better met. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month from 8.45am to 11.30am. Meetings are held at Fairfield City Council.
