Green Grants Program 2011-2012

Liverpool City Council commenced its Green Grants Program, with applications opening in September 2011. The Green Grants Program has been established to assist eligible schools and community groups with projects to improve our local environment. The Green Grants Program aims to support community initiatives that address environmental issues such as:
 
• Waste minimisation or recycling
• Sustainable water use
• Saving energy or greenhouse gas emissions
• Improving local biodiversity
• Sustainable gardening including vegetable gardens
• Education for sustainable living programs.

Applications were received from a wide range of groups including, primary and high schools, multicultural, welfare and charitable organisations providing programs or services to the residents of Liverpool.  Twenty five applications were received requesting a total of $76,848.50. Council was pleased to announce the success of sixteen applications totalling $44,630.50.

Greek Orthodox Community of NSW Ltd Educational workshops on sustainable gardening and living for the Greek Orthodox mature aged support group.
Australian Foundation for Disability Sustainable gardening program for participants at the Chipping Norton Day program facility.
Recipient: School Category Project
Nuwarra Public School Planning, designing and implementation of a sustainable garden.
Prestons Public School Establishment of a native and vegetable garden.
Holsworthy Public School Creation of sustainable gardens including, vegetables, bush tucker and native plants, whilst incorporating Aboriginal culture and heritage with involvement of local Aboriginal elders and interpretative signage.
Cecil Hills Public School Establishment of a vegetable garden and outdoor learning area.
Bellfield College A multicultural garden for the school community to grow vegetables and herbs from around the world representing their diverse school community. The garden will demonstrate practical sustainable gardening principles.
Green Valley Public School Establishment of a school vegetable garden and development of a whole school composting system to reduce the school’s organic waste.
Lawrence Hargrave School Community partnership to be built with the Salvation Army “Food 4 Life” market by providing the local community with fresh grown produce from the school garden.
Hoxton Park High School Installation of a water tank to help support the Hoxton Park Community Farm project.
Kemps Creek Public School Establishment of two vegetable gardens to provide fresh produce to the school canteen, and for students to take fresh local produce home.
All Saints Catholic Primary School Enhancement of school kitchen garden and introduce three tumbleweed compost systems to reduce organic waste within school grounds.
Miller High School Design, build and promote an ecological / bush tucker garden that will also be used as an outdoor learning area.
Middleton Grange Public School Development of an Aboriginal learnscape by creating a native garden with trees, plants, bush tucker and artefacts representing the people, land and the Dreaming that will also be used as an outdoor learning area.
Al Amanah College Interactive environmental education and information project for students, staff, parents and care givers targeting English and Arabic speaking school community.
