Plan(t) it for Real
Plan(t) it for Real is a joint project with Fairfield City Council. The project provides a strategy to guide future investment in the Cabramatta Creek catchment through identification of prioritised, resourced and integrated projects. There are two major projects funded by Georges River Foreshore Improvement Program (GRFIP) that have arisen from this strategy and have commenced this year:
- Integrated Works - Cabramatta and Brickmakers Creeks and Reserves
- Brickmakers Creek Restoration.

Cabramatta and Brickmakers Creeks Plan(t) it for Real Project
Cabramatta and Brickmakers Creeks lie wholly within the Fairfield and Liverpool local government areas and are important components of the Georges River Catchment.
Though both Creeks have become somewhat degraded through urban development, they hold significant local and regional value in terms of recreational potential, educational potential, and habitat for native flora and fauna.
For the past ten years, small portions of both Creeks have been subject to environmental restoration works undertaken by Fairfield and Liverpool City Councils and local community groups. Planning NSW, the Stormwater Trust, the Environmental Trust, the Natural Heritage Trust, and Fairfield and Liverpool City Councils have provided ongoing funding for these works.
In 2001, it was determined that future works in the area would be most effective if guided by a strategic plan based on community consultation, environmental assessment and the requirements of current legislation. An application was made to Planning NSW for funding to develop the plan, and a grant of $50,000 was provided through the Georges River Foreshore Improvement Program in 2002.
Through a combination of written surveys, meetings with the local community and meetings with special interest groups, it was determined that the community wished for:
- Improved cleanliness and health of the creeks
- Improved access through cycleways, walkways and signage
- Protection / rehabilitation of natural ecosystems
- Flood mitigation.
The final output of this project consists of a list of prioritised projects, accompanied by maps illustrating the project locations, which may be utilised by a variety of departments within both Fairfield and Liverpool Councils. It is anticipated that the report will be of use to all those involved in catchment management, bushcare, parks and recreation, infrastructure maintenance and environmental health.

The Grange Heritage: The Rossmore Research, Rehabilitation and Recreation Project
The Grange Heritage: The Rossmore Research, Rehabilitation and Recreation Project is an initiative of Liverpool City Council and is funded by the State Government's Metropolitan Greenspace Programme.
Rossmore Grange presents enormous environmental, cultural, heritage, educational and passive recreational opportunities for the South-west Sydney community. A detailed understanding of the significance of some of the sites assets has previously been elicited through site investigations particularly the natural environmental significance; however further investigation is required for others. It is proposed to undertake the project in 2 stages:
- Stage 1 being information collection and preparation of site designs and works plan
- Stage 2 being delivery of on-ground works.
You can download a copy of the The Grange Heritage: The Rossmore Research, Rehabilitation and Recreation Project - Cultural, heritage and vegetation assessment.
