What is the Youth Council?

Ever get the feeling no one listens to you because you're a young person?

Image Liverpool Youth CouncilThe Liverpool Youth Council is here to change all that!

The Liverpool Youth Council is a group of young people (12 to 24 years) who meet regularly to make decisions about issues affecting young people and to influence Council's policies and decisions towards young people.

It provides young people with a direct link to Council and to have input into Council decisions and issues affecting young people.  Liverpool Youth Council members serve a two-year term.

Liverpool City Council (LCC) wants you to have your say and actually be heard, and that's why Council has established the Liverpool Youth Council (LYC).  The Liverpool Youth Council is an initiative of Council, as part of its Youth Strategy.  The LYC gives young people of Liverpool a chance to have their say and be heard - so speak up because we want to listen!

The LYC receive funding from Council and work towards providing events / activities / forums and other things for Liverpool's young people.

The LYC is open to any young person who is between 12 and 24 years old and lives in Liverpool local government area (LGA).

Who is it for?

The LYC is open to any young person between 12 and 24 years who lives in the Liverpool Local Government Area. (If you live in any area on the map located under 'Related Documents' to the right of your screen, that means you live in the Liverpool LGA).

It is made up of 15 young people from all across Liverpool and we try to have at least two representatives from each Neighbourhood Area.

Why does the Youth Council exist?

Council recognises the importance of young people's views and wanted to make sure there was an avenue for young people to feed into Council directly. This is why Council developed the Youth Strategy and the LYC.

The LYC makes sure young people of Liverpool are listened to and gives young people a chance to have direct contact with Council about issues that affect them.

The LYC also runs events / activities for young people across Liverpool.

What does the Youth Council do?

The LYC meet monthly.  At these meeting the LYC:

  • Discuss issues relating to Liverpool's young people
  • Organise events / activities
  • Provide feedback or comment on Council policies or development applications
  • Are consulted about particular youth issues or initiatives
  • Receive training on particular issues or skills.

To attend or observe the meeting, you need to firstly request permission, however we encourage all young people to come along and have a look.
