10 New Green jobs for Liverpool's youth

As part of the Australian Government initiative, Green Corps, the Georges River Environment Education Centre and Liverpool City Council are providing opportunity for 10 young locals to contribute to Liverpool’s environment and receive on-the-job training. The team of 10 youngsters was officially welcomed to their new roles at an event at Chipping Norton Boatshed on Friday, 8 May.

The new project, which will focus on restoring bird habitat at Chipping Norton Lakes, is part of Liverpool City Council’s Environment Restoration Plan to improve the natural environment in Liverpool including building community networks, and delivering environmental education to the community.

“What a fantastic opportunity for these young people to contribute to the community and immerse themselves in environmental care,” said Liverpool Mayor, Wendy Waller.

“This will be a rewarding experience for the people in the team who will gain valuable skills and work experience.” Mayor Waller commented.

Rosy Porter, a Greening Australia Project Officer and former Green Corps participant, said that the project will provide a great learning environment for self development. “I have seen many participants graduate from this program with improved self confidence and a clearer vision of where they want to take their career.”
