Al Madeheen Casula Powerhouse, 7.30pm Al Madeheen - the quartet of Sufi musicians from Syria who enchanted audiences at the Art Gallery of NSW in 2007 bring a taste of Islam's beauty to Casula Powerhouse. As part of the Ramadan festivities, Al Madeheen, a renowned group of Syrian performers, is bringing this stunning display of faith and culture to the heart of south west Sydney. The spinning of the 'whirling dervishes' is 700-year old rite based in the Mevlevi sect of Sufism. Al Madeheen will perform for one night only at the Casula Powerhouse - cost $5. Worm farming and composting workshop Saturday 23 August, 10am-12 noon Light Horse Community Gardens Light Horse Park, end of Riverpark Drive, Liverpool Interested in composting and worm farming but don’t know where to start? Do you have a compost bin or worm farm that isn’t working quite right? Come along to this informative workshop where you will learn how to set up and maintain your worm farm and compost bin, plus troubleshooting tips. Free Parents Workshop Council Administration Centre, 6-8pm This RTA run workshop is suitable for parents and other supervisors of learner drivers. The workshop will offer practical advice about supervising learner drivers, completing the Learner Driver Log Book and the benefits of driving practice. Dollars and Cents: Financial Literacy for Adult Learners Tuesday 2 September, 11am Nicole Scott and Lisa Lu from the Australian Securities and Investments Commission will be conducting an informal session on how to manage your money, debt, savings and goals. The presentation will include tips on managing your finances including budgeting, credit, superannuation, insurance, investing and retirement planning.
Waste not, want not Wednesday 3 September, 10am-12 noon Liverpool City Council's Sustainability Education Officer, Michelle Catley, will discuss ways we can all contribute to saving the environment. Brochures and fact sheets will be available for participants.
Line dancing Tuesday 9 September, 11am-12 noon An informal session on line dancing. Limited to 15 participants.
Creative card making Wednesday 10 September, 12.30pm-2.30pm Hands-on workshop on making your own greeting card. Limited to 15 participants.

Austalian Casula Powerhouse, 1 Casula Road, Casula This exhibition features 12 new works in a variety of mediums including sculpture, painting, installation and textiles. Like most Australians, the artists have cultural and family ties in other places and it is this which informs their work. Australian celebrates the complexity that makes this country such an interesting place to live and presents some of the freshest and most dynamic work being created here. FREE. Step into the Future at Miller TAFE Thursday 11 September, 9.30am-7.30pm Miller College, Corner Hoxton Park Road and Banks Road, Miller This employment expo and open day is an initiative of the Community 2168 Employment and Education Working Party and Miller College of TAFE. Open to high school students, their parents and the general public, the expo will provide information on various industries to assist with employment, careers advice and apprenticeships. History Week Celebrate History Week at Liverpool City Library with the following events:
Antique Jewellery Valuation Saturday 6 September, 1.30-3.30pm Cost is $5 per person. Presented by Elizabeth Steven, a regular guest on Radio 2UE John Kerr’s show 'Antiques and Collectables'. A specialist in antique jewellery and the owner of Chiltons Antiques and Jewellery store in Miranda, Elizabeth will value your antique jewellery on the day. Only one item per person on the day. Linking Aboriginal Pasts and Futures in Liverpool Thursday 11 September, 6-7.30pm UTS historian Heather Goodall presents this discussion on environmental history and Indigenous life stories, including hte recently completed 'Rivers of Resistance: Aboriginal People and the Georges River National Park’. The discussion will look at the way new research allows us to build a continuous history of Aboriginal people's presence in the area since early settlement. There will also be discussions on the implication of this on contemporary Aboriginal roles and directions in this area. Refreshments provided. For more information phone 9821 9436.

Twisted Sounds Saturday 20 September, 2-10pm Liverpool PCYC, Cartwright Avenue, Miller Youth music festival - Twisted Sounds 08 – is back by popular demand. Features include performances by Dead Letter Circus and MM9, local bands Hail Discordia, Rattlesnake, Bleached Academy, In Flight Entertainment, The Future Divine, The Surge, In Apathy and In Coma View.
