South West Rail Link

The South West Rail Link is a 12 km twin track passenger rail line which forms part of the T2 line. It stretches from Glenfield to Leppington, including stations at Edmondson Park and Leppington and an upgrade to Glenfield Station.  Trains now operate between Leppington and the City Circle via Granville. Passengers have the option of changing trains at Glenfield if they wish to utilise faster express services to the city, Sydney Airport or Campbelltown.

Commuter car parks are located at Edmondson Park and Leppington and provide over 1,000 car spaces.  Bus services operate from Leppington Station to Austral, Bringelly, Prestons and Oran Park, while buses from Edmondson Park link to Ingleburn and Prestons.

This rail link is the key to the success of the Edmondson Park and Leppington Town Centres.  The project provides benefits to the areas directly serviced by the stations as well as the broader South West Sydney region including:

  • Promoting compact urban growth, reducing sprawl and protecting valuable agricultural land,
  • Supporting the higher residential densities and smaller, more affordable housing in close proximity to the rail line and future town centres,
  • Connecting more Liverpool residents to the Sydney Trains network,
  • Supporting development of large retail outlets at the future Edmondson Park and Leppington Town Centres,
  • Reducing air pollution in western Sydney,
  • Improving mobility and independence in the community, particularly for teenagers and the elderly, and
  • Reducing road congestion and reliance on the private vehicles.

The NSW Government is also investigating the corridor and alignment of the South West Rail Link extension towards Bringelly and the Western Sydney Airport. Additional information can be found at Transport for NSW.
