Heavy Vehicles

The parking of heavy / long vehicles in built up areas is only allowed for periods less than one (1) hour.

The Road Rules 2008 state that a vehicle with a GVM (gross vehicle mass) greater than 4.5t or a vehicle longer than 7 metres cannot be parked in a residential street for longer than one hour unless the driver is actually picking up or dropping off goods.

Heavy vehicles damage residential streets which are not designed to carry heavy weights, as well as causing visual obstructions to other motorists.  Generally, heavy vehicles start early, and the noise disturbs the sleep of residents.

Council Rangers patrol streets, as well as respond to complaints regarding heavy / long vehicles.  Infringement notices will apply, to vehicles breaching the road rules and this may also be followed up with legal action.

Parking heavy vehicles on your property is also not allowed in the Liverpool area without a development application being lodged and approved.

Council encourages the use of transport depots for the parking of heavy vehicles.  This benefits operators as security is increased.

Alternate parking is also available around certain areas in Liverpool.  Please contact Council’s Traffic Section for an updated list of these areas on 1300 36 2170.
