Illegal Dumping

Illegal dumping costs the Liverpool community a great deal each year. Dumped waste can consist of dangerous items such as syringes, asbestos and toxic waste.  It attracts disease carrying pests, as well as it degrades the amenity of the community.

The State Government has set fines that can be quite high, ranging from $750 to $5000 on the spot, or up to $22,000 in Local Court.

"Illegal dumping is the disposal of any type of waste in an area where it is not permitted".

In Liverpool, the source of most dumps can be traced back to householders and is especially common around unit blocks and areas that attract transient residents.

Frequently dumped items include unwanted household materials like furniture, whitegoods, mattresses, garden organics, building and renovation materials or garbage bags full of rubbish.

Dumped rubbish harms the environment, is unsightly, unhealthy, attracts vermin, can be a physical and fire hazard, and can serve as a magnet for additional dumping.

Council offers two free pickups for residents per year.  Please call Council on 1300 36 2170 to arrange a pickup, however do not place waste outside of your property until the night before pickup.

The owner of waste that has been illegally dumped, is equally liable as the actual dumper.

If you dump in Liverpool, you will be caught.
