Abandoned Vehicles

Abandoned vehicles provide hazards to pedestrians and motorists, as well as being unsightly. Compliance Officers respond to complaints regarding abandoned vehicles, and arrange to have the vehicles removed.  The process can take up to 14 days.

Vehicles that are unregistered are not necessarily abandoned.

An abandoned vehicle is a vehicle that has been forsaken forever.

An unregistered vehicle parked outside of the owners house needs to be referred to the Police, not to Council, as Council cannot take any action in relation to unregistered vehicles, where the owner is known.

It is an offence to remove or take parts from an abandoned vehicle.

If you have a vehicle that you no longer want, there are numerous contractors available that will remove your vehicle for free.

Council may issue fines for vehicles left abandoned.

You must notify the RMS whenever you dispose of a vehicle, even if you give it away for free, or you may be held liable for any events or actions committed by the new owner.
