The exchange program

In 1992, a sister city relationship between the cities of Toda (Japan) and Liverpool was established. The Toda/Liverpool Sister City Student Exchange Program is a leading example of local government working in partnership with the school community and Liverpool families.

Purpose / objectives of the Program 

  • To strengthen the current community based programs that encourage the regular exchange of information as well as sporting, cultural and student groups.
  • To enhance economic development and new business opportunities with each Sister City through participation by business people and community representatives.
  • To promote the development of participant's skills.
  • To establish long term relationships between fellow exchange students and community members and their respective families.
  • To gain a deeper understanding of other cultures, countries and their history by the Liverpool community.


     

    2011 Toda/Liverpool Sister City Student Exchange Program 

    Date: Applications close 1 April 2011

    Applications for the Toda/Liverpool Sister City Student Exchange Program are now open.

    The Student Exchange Program, now in its 19th year, is organised by the Toda International Friendship Association and Liverpool City Council.

    The program allows for 15 students from each city to participate in the program annually.

    The program aims to facilitate an annual student exchange and establish strong cultural links between the two cities.

    Applicants must live in the Liverpool Local Government Area. 

    Liverpool students will depart for Japan on 26 September and return on 5 October 2011

    Participating families must be able to host a Japanese student during their stay in Liverpool between 27 July and 3 August 2011.

    Liverpool students wishing to participate must submit their applications to their school Principal by Friday 1 April 2011.
