A flexible approach to assessing applications to remove or prune trees will ensure that trees of high aesthetic and environmental value are only removed when deemed necessary.

How to apply for A tree removal PERMIT
 Anyone wishing to prune or remove a tree that is located on private property must first obtain approval from Council. Applications to prune or remove trees should be made on a private property form. This form is available for download.
An administration fee is payable at the time the application is lodged. An additional tree removal fee, per tree requested to be removed, is also payable.This tree removal fee will go toward Council's bush regeneration programs and the planting of native trees in the Liverpool local government area. Should an application to remove a tree be refused, no refunds will be payable.
Council will waive the administration fee for applicants who present their Pensioner Card or Health Care Card at the time of lodging the application. Please note that the tree removal fee is still payable.

Trees disputes between neighbours
Council will not become involved in disputes between neighbours about trees.
Where disputes arise, it is recommended that independent legal advice be obtained. Free legal advice can be obtained through the South West Sydney Legal Centre on 9601 7777 or the Legal Aid Commission on 9601 1200.

Tree management policy prohibition statement
A person must not ring bark, cut down, top, lop, remove, injure or wilfully destroy any tree or other vegetation to which any such development control plan applies without a development consent or authorisation permit from Council.
A tree is defined as any perennial plant that has a:
- Height greater than 3.5 metres; and/or
- Canopy spread greater than 4 metres; and/or
- Primary trunk diameter greater than 400 millimetres when measured 1 metre above existing ground level of the tree.
This clause does not apply to a tree or other vegetation that Council is satisfied is dead, dying or dangerous and is not required as the habitat of native fauna.
Note: Any dead trees that form a component of any species, populations or communities listed under the provisions of the Threatened Species Conservation Act (TSCA) 1995; or their habitats are not to be removed without gaining the necessary approvals under the act.

Tree Watch
Council's Tree Watch program has been set up to report incidents of environmental vandalism. If you see or hear any environmental vandalism occurring in Liverpool please report the incident to Council's Tree Watch Program on 1300 36 2170.
If possible please provide information on time, date, location and brief description of occurrences. However we would advise that you DO NOT approach any of the offenders.
