Tax help seminars 

Date: 18-22 June 2012, 9am-5pm
Bookings essential for workshops

The seminars are part of the Australian Tax Office's small business assistance program which delivers tailored and practical assistance to small businesses.
Seminars on Record Keeping, Tax Basics and for cultural and linguistically diverse participants from Arabic and Vietnamese backgrounds a seminar on the Tax System in Australia will also take place.

Seminars will be delivered by experienced tax officers at the following times:

Monday 18 June - Record Keeping Workshop, 5-7.45pm
Tuesday 19 June - Tax Basics, 5-7.45pm
Wednesday 20 June - Tax System in Australia (Arabic), 5-7.45pm
Thursday 21 June - Tax System in Australia (Vietnamese), 5–7.45pm

Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre is proud to present Wild Stories, a series of workshops involving foraging in and around the local community. The project will include workshops and foraging tour of Casula Parklands hosted by skilled artist, naturalist and forager Diego Bonetto.

Diego will be hosting several workshops to gather species and harvest community stories through to November 2012, leading to a major exhibition launch 1 December 2012 to 31 January 2013

Art for Artists with disabilities 

Date: Various dates
The Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre will run a monthly arts program for individuals living with mild to moderate intellectual and physical disabilities. The classes will run on the first Monday of every month and will be headed by Rebecca Gentz, a local artist specialising n Fine Art, Art Therapy and disability work.

The program will provide community members with mild to moderate disabilities, regular access to a creative and safe environment. These budding artists will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of different visual arts media that we hope will encourage active participation and mobility.

Tree Planting event at Glen Regent Reserve 

Date: 20 May 2012, 9-11.30am
Location: Glen Regent Reserve, meet at the playground on Leacocks Lane, Casula from 9am

Council is calling on residents to help make a real difference to their local environment by joining one of Liverpool’s nine Environment groups and participating in Tree Planting events held throughout the year.

Come along and help improve the natural environment by planting trees at Glen Regent Reserve. Tree planting events are an opportunity to meet other local residents, learn new skills, enjoy the outdoors and make a difference to our local natural environment.

Please wear closed in shoes, hat, long sleeved shirt and bring a water bottle. Event includes a free BBQ for all participants.

National Simultaneous Storytime 

Date: 23 May 2012
Location: Liverpool City Library, 170 George St, Liverpool

Children at Liverpool City Library will join more than 170,000 children across Australia while they simultaneously read the picture book The Very Cranky Bear.

The event has been organised by the Australian Library and Information Association, to promote the value of reading and literacy, the importance of Australia's book industry and the role of libraries.

The Very Cranky Bear is written by Nick Bland and published by Scholastic Australia.

sorry day

Liverpool City Council invites residents to be part of this year’s Sorry Day celebrations on Saturday 26 May at the Liverpool Regional Museum from 10-11.30am.

The official ceremony will commence with the Welcome to Country delivered by an Aboriginal Elder from the Liverpool Local Government Area. The event will include a flag raising ceremony and didgeridoo performance.

There are buses arranged to then leave the Liverpool Regional Museum at 12 noon, to Gibber Gunyah (Tharawal LALC) Picton for a luncheon, and then depart at 2.30pm to visit the Stolen Generations Garden a section of the The Australian Botanic Garden, Mount Annan (off Narellan Road, Mount Annan).


There is no cost to attend, although as numbers on the buses are limited, bookings are essential.
