As part of the Starry Saari Nights, we are celebrating the many flavours of South Asia with a Curry Cook Off! Know someone who makes the most heartwarming curry? Encourage them to apply – the winner takes home $1,000.

The Curry Cook Off will be held on Sunday 24 September from 5pm till 8pm. Chefs will go head-to-head to be voted Liverpool's best homemade curry by Mayor Ned Mannoun and our distinguished judges.

Gates open at 5pm and the event finishes at 10pm.

What time can I get there?

The event will begin at 5pm and finishes at 10pm. At the end of the event, the events staff will help you to depart the site as efficiently and safely as possible.

Is there disabled access / parking at this event?

Accessible parking is available at Bathurst Street Carpark please park in designated Disabled parking spots.

Will I be searched upon entry?

For safety reasons, Council staff, event crew and security reserve the right to check your bags upon entry. Please check our ‘prohibited items’ list below to ensure you are aware of what not to bring to the event.

Can we bring our own food?

You sure can, but why would you? There will be plenty of tasty and affordable food options on the evening. Food items will be priced to be family friendly.

Are there vegan / vegetarian / gluten free options?

There will be plenty of food options that cater for every dietary requirement.

Can we bring our own alcohol?

This is an alcoholic free event any alcohol brought onto site will be confiscated and authorities can be notified.

Can I smoke at the event?

No smoking is permitted within the event site. Please follow all signs and directions of security, staff and police to designated smoking areas outside of the event site.

Can I bring in Eskies / BBQs / Shade Structures?

For safety reasons, you are unable to bring your own esky / barbeque or shade structure. There will be plenty of seating available.

What items are prohibited?  

Items prohibited at Starry Sari Nights include:

  • Alcohol and illicit substances of any kind;
  • Glass bottles, glassware or breakable containers;
  • Eskies, barbeques or shade structures;
  • Weapons of any kind, including any item that can be used as a projectile;
  • Knives or Scissors;
  • Fireworks, sparklers or flares;
  • Laser pointers;
  • Drones or any other remote-controlled device;
  • Bicycles, Scooters, Skateboards or skates;
  • Animals (excluding service animals);
  • Cameras and recording devices for commercial use (unless approved by Council); and
  • Other items deemed by security, police or event coordinators as having potential to cause injury or public nuisance.

Can I bring my dog to the event?

Dogs are allowed on site so long as they are kept on a leash and are well behaved. Council will not tolerate any aggressive behaviour or excessive barking and owners must clean up after their pets. If this is not adhered to, Council staff reserve the right to remove dogs from the event site at any time.

Can I take photos / film at the event?

Yes, photos can be taken for personal use. In fact, we encourage you to capture your memories of the night and post your social media profiles using the hashtag #lovelivo. We’ll send you some love and reshare the best snaps on our socials.

Professional photography (including the use of tripods for safety reasons) will not be permitted on the night without prior consent from Liverpool City Council’s Communications team.

Will vendors accept cash? 

We strongly recommend you use a credit or debit card to purchase refreshments. Vendors will have EFTPOS facilities available.

Are there ATMs on site?

There are multiple ATMs available on-site. All vendors will also have EFTPOS facilities available.

What happens if it rains?

The show must go on! If weather conditions become extreme and pose risk to attendees, performers and crew, the event may be cancelled. Notification will be provided via Council’s social media channels.

Media accreditation?

Media are requested to contact Aya Kartambis, Liverpool City Council Communications and Events Officer, to receive accreditation to photograph, film or run interviews at the event kartambisa@liverpool.nsw.gov.au

Can I apply to be a stallholder?

Stallholder applications are now closed. If you have any questions, please contact the Events team at events@liverpool.nsw.gov.au.

How do Local Businesses participate in the Sari Showcase?

Any businesses wishing to participate in the Sari Showcase will be required to complete
an application form. The form will outline all terms and conditions and requirements.

The application form will be circulated to all local businesses for consideration.
Local businesses must ensure that all provided information is correct and requested documentation be provided by the applications close off date for consideration.

Will there be a fashion show each night?

Yes, there will be a fashion show each night of the event. A full event program will be circulated on social media and Council’s website.

Wanting to participate in Starry Sari Nights?

A key focus of the event is showcasing the unique local businesses, services and programs that Liverpool has to offer. Whilst also showcasing and celebrating the vibrant and diverse wonders of South Asian culture through cuisine, fashion, cooking demonstrations, live entertainment, market stalls and more. There are many ways businesses, services and communities can be involved, including:

  • Fashion shows featuring local Sari Shops
  • Food Stalls and Trucks
  • Performances – Dance, DJ, Bands and other acts
  • Workshops including craft and arts activities
  • Henna and Face painting
