Liverpool City Council introduces daily patrol of Austral to provide a rapid response to road and other infrastructure problems

Liverpool City Council is instituting daily patrols of Austral commencing today, to address road problems, construction management and illegal dumping.

Mayor Ned Mannoun said that this demonstrates his commitment to the community around building a better Austral via the establishment of the Austral Delivery Unit.

“The first initiative of the Austral Delivery Unit is having a dedicated council ranger drive around Austral enforcing the safety and the cleanliness of the streets which is paramount for the community.

From ensuring there is no overgrown grass, to fixing potholes and to overseeing the builders work on our roads is done in an orderly fashion. This will help address the immediate issues in Austral.

On top of this Council is focused on delivering a better Austral and exploring other initiatives. This is just the start,” said Mayor Mannoun.

Mannoun said that councillors had resolved to introduce daily patrols during the council meeting in November.

“The community has spoken, and we have delivered this plan to improve the quality of Austral.

The amount of construction has been causing a host of problems for motorists and residents who have endured illegal road closures, traffic delays and damage to streets and footpaths,” Mayor Mannoun said.

The daily inspections undertaken by Council Rangers will include:

  • The state of roads (potholes, road plates etc);
  • Any road works being undertaken by developers;
  • Overgrown vegetation on private and public land;
  • Construction management - including private works or work being done by a public authority/utility; and
  • Illegal dumping.

Council is also working with Transport for NSW to be part of their “OneRoad” system. This system uses the Live Traffic app and website to share real time traffic information for all road user via Live Traffic NSW.

Using the OneRoad web-based platform, councils can update road users on traffic conditions, incidents, and major events across local council roads into one central hub, making critical information available. The aim is to have one source of traffic information for all road users in NSW to help people make informed travel decisions, plan and complete their journeys safely.

“A better Liverpool is coming for our Austral residents today,” Mayor Mannoun concluded.

Liverpool City Council is also holding a community forum in Austral tonight, Tuesday 6 December from 6.30pm-8pm at 105 Eleventh Avenue, Austral. Mayor Ned Mannoun, Councillors and Council staff will be available to hear your suggestions on how to make Austral a better place to live.
