Liverpool community to benefit from free online exercise classes

Belgravia Leisure, in partnership with Liverpool City Council, today announced its online exercise classes for all ages and abilities will be opened to all residents across the Liverpool Local Government Area – at no cost.

This initiative by Belgravia Leisure, who operates Council-owned Whitlam Leisure Centre, Michael Clarke Recreation Centre and Michael Wenden Aquatic Leisure Centre, follows the closure of the centres due to the current NSW Health stay-at-home order.

Mayor of Liverpool Wendy Waller welcomed this initiative and said now more than ever people need to focus on their health and wellbeing.

“This is great news for our residents who we know have given up so much throughout this extended stay-at-home period. Anyone can join regardless of whether they are a member of these facilities.

“The benefits of physical exercise on mental health are well-documented. We hope having a structured fitness program at their fingertips will make this period a little easier for our residents.”

“This is a testament to Belgravia and Council’s dedication to the welfare our wonderful community.”

Classes are livestreamed or can be accessed on demand via the Leisure Centre’s private Facebook pages. Residents simply can request access and upon approval will be able to stream a minimum of 22 live classes each week and around 50 classes on demand. The classes range from high intensity to gentle exercise classes and include yoga, Zumba and HIIT workouts.

“We encourage all our residents to get on board and even try a new form of exercise they might not have had the opportunity to do otherwise,” Mayor Waller said.

Residents can also access free mental health training through Belgravia Foundation in the form of MHeLP – a cutting edge Mental Health eLearning Program developed under the guidance of international mental health and exercise experts.
