Liverpool City Council is set to reopen indoor pools, fitness venues and community centres for hire from Saturday 13 June in line with the NSW Government’s staged easing of COVID-19 restrictions.
And community sport for all ages is set to recommence from 1 July.
In accordance with NSW Government requirements around social distancing and hygiene practices, the following facilities are set to reopen:
Michael Clarke Recreation Centre;
Whitlam Leisure Centre;
Michael Wenden Aquatic Leisure Centre;
Holsworthy Aquatic Centre.
Small groups of up to 10 people will be able to take part in fitness classes, and access to cardio and gym equipment will also be allowed.
However overall numbers attending indoor venues must be consistent with the government guidelines of one person per four square metres at all times.
Some swim squad training, swimming classes and limited lap times will also be available.
Council’s community facilities for hire will be reopened from 13 June for licensed and permanent hirers on approval from Council, with the aim of reopening bookings from 1 July for casual hirers.
Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said Council was working closely with the private operators of Holsworthy Aquatic Centre and its recreational centre private operators Belgravia Leisure to implement COVID-19 safety guidelines and requirements as the venues reopen to the public.
“The reopening of our leisure and community centres with limitations is welcomed news for our residents, but we need to be mindful of fellow patrons, staff and users of these facilities by maintaining good hand hygiene, cleanliness and physical distancing.
“Hirers of Council-owned community centres will be required to record the names of visitors and adhere to cleaning and hygiene responsibilities when using the centre.
“We are currently investigating installation of hygiene barriers in the customer service areas of our leisure centres in anticipation that pre-COVID-19 conditions are imminent and patrons accessing these facilities will increase,” Mayor Waller said.
“While life is slowly returning to normal, we must not let our guard drop – it is up to all of us to remain vigilant and continue the good work that has got us this far.”
Community sport for all ages is set to re-commence from Wednesday 1 July 2020.
