Calling local gardeners – show us your garden and WIN!

Liverpool City Council’s Garden competition is back and bigger than ever with 9 categories, giving all gardens - big or small - a chance to win a share of $4500.

Mayor Ned Mannoun is encouraging everyone with a love for gardening join in, saying that gardens contribute to beautiful streetscapes, provide enjoyment for the wider community and create a more sustainable environment in our city.

“Our gardening competition is as much about people as it is about plants. There are so many benefits to gardening, including boosting physical and mental wellness, stress relief and the sense of accomplishment watching something grow and thrive,” he said.

“There is a category for just about every kind of green space, from balconies through to community gardens so residents, schools, community groups and businesses can all join in whether they are a beginner gardener or experienced horticulturists.

“The best garden in each category will win a $500 cash prize so I invite our green thumbed locals to nominate their beautiful garden and share their slices of paradise - entry is free and open now.”

The Garden Competition has the following categories:

  • Best Large Garden
  • Best Small Garden
  • Best Courtyard/Balcony Garden
  • Best Edible Garden
  • Best Native & Habitat-friendly Garden
  • Best School Garden
  • Best Non-residential Garden
  • Best Community Garden
  • Best Rural Garden

Council will contact nominees for photos to determine the finalists in the coming weeks and will start the formal judging process after the competition closes on 30 September.

The winning gardens will be announced in October.
