  1. Liverpool City Council (“LCC”) is the promoter of the Western Sydney Airport Minecraft Competition (Competition) whose registered office is at 33 Moore St, Liverpool 2170.
  2. Only entrants (Entrants) from primary schools in the following local government areas are eligible to enter the Competition (Participating School): Blacktown City Council; Blue Mountains City Council; Camden Council; Campbelltown City Council; City of Canterbury Bankstown; City of Parramatta Council; Cumberland Council; Fairfield City Council; Liverpool City Council; Penrith City Council; The Hills Shire Council; and Wollondilly Shire Council.
  3. Entrants who are immediate family members of LCC staff or Councillors or anyone else connected in any way with the Competition or helping to set up the Competition are permitted to enter the Competition but are ineligible for the prize.
  4. Participation in the Competition is free. There is no entry fee or purchase necessary to enter the Competition. Entrants however must supply their own equipment including software and hardware reasonably required to participate in the Competition.
  5. Entry forms for the Competition and details of how to enter are available at minecraft.liverpool.nsw.gov.au
  6. Entrants from Participating Schools must complete and submit an entry form by no later than 5.00pm on Monday, 17 October 2022. After this time, no further entries to the Competition will be permitted. Participating Schools can only submit one entry form for consideration in the Competition.
  7. Entry forms must include an unlisted link to the video entry, hosted on YouTube and full access details if required. Video links must clearly identify the name of the Participating School and submitting teacher.
  8. No responsibility can be accepted for entries not received for whatever reason by the stipulated cut-off time.
  9. The rules of the Competition and the prize for the winner are as follows:
    • Participating Schools are responsible for choosing a single entry in the Competition;
    • The challenge is to use Minecraft Education Edition to design the Entrant’s interpretation of a sustainable and connected Western Sydney Airport;
    • Entries will take the form of a two-minute narrated video walkthrough of the Entrant’s design interpretation of a sustainable and connected Western Sydney Airport;
    • Entries can be from individuals, groups of students or classes from the Participating School;
    • Inappropriate images and videos including but not limited to those depicting nudity, violence, unsafe activities, substance abuse or misconduct will not be accepted;
    • Entries will be judged on merit with the following considerations:
    • (i) use of design thinking to solve a complex problem;

      (ii) use of skills to plan, organise and monitor activities;

      (iii) reflections on learning, giving valid reasons for supporting one solution over another and evaluating information;

      (iv) use of Minecraft Education Edition to solve a complex problem;

      (v) producing a sustainable solution to a problem considering the needs of the community and environment;

      (vi) creation of a practical solution to an authentic real-world problem; and

      (vii) the planning and delivery of a fun pitch that engages the audience;

    • Short-listed video entries will be uploaded by LCC to its YouTube channel and embedded on its website/s at the discretion of the judges (and any other site as determined by LCC). At least some members of the winning Entrant from the Participating School must be available for media interviews and photographs.
    • LCC reserves the right to republish videos and images of an Entrant’s video entry in other formats and locations and use them for promotional purposes;
    • Each Minecraft Education Edition construction must be an original work and must not have been previously published. It must also not have been accepted for publication or under offer to any publisher or entered in another contest until the results of this Competition are announced;
    • Submissions will not be returned and it is the responsibility of the Entrant to retain copies. All video entries become the property of the LCC upon submission;
    • Each entry must be accompanied by a valid entry form available from minecraft.liverpool.nsw.gov.au listing the project title, along with the name, address and contact details of the Participating School, responsible teacher and a list of the participants. Entries submitted without a valid entry form will not be considered;
    • Each video entry should include relevant credits;
    • LCC reserves the right to use the videos and images for promotional purposes after the Competition is completed;
    • All responsibility for copyright clearance, parent/guardian permissions and content suitability remain with the Participating School or responsible adult. Participating Schools must not use music, images or any other content for which it does not have copyright ownership or written permission from the copyright owner to use; and
    • The winning Entrant(s) will receive a cash prize to be spent on a STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) project or related project at their school. Prizes are non-transferable.
  10. LCC reserves the right to cancel or amend the Competition and these terms and conditions without notice. Any changes to the Competition will be notified to Entrants and/or Participating Schools as soon as possible by LCC.
  11. LCC is not responsible for inaccurate prize details supplied to any Participating School by any third party connected with the Competition.
  12. The winner(s) will be chosen by an independent panel of judges appointed by LCC. The judges reserve the right not to award a prize if, in the judges’ opinion, entries are not of a high enough standard.
  13. The winner(s) will be announced on the LCC website. If the winner(s) cannot be contacted following reasonable attempts to do so or does not claim the prize within 14 days of notification, LCC reserves the right to withdraw the prize from the winner(s) and pick a replacement winner.
  14. The decision of LCC in respect of all matters to do with the Competition will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  15. By entering the Competition, an Entrant is indicating their agreement to be bound by these terms and conditions. Further, the Entrant releases LCC from and against any and all claims, demands, liability, damages or causes of action (howsoever arising), losses, costs or expenses, with respect to or arising out of or related to the Entrant’s participation in the Competition, acceptance of a prize and/or use or misuse of a prize (including, without any limitation, any property loss, damage, personal injury or death caused to any person(s)) and any infringement by the Entrant of any intellectual property rights of any other person.
  16. The Competition and these terms and conditions will be governed by the laws of the State of New South Wales and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New South Wales.
  17. The winner agrees to the use of their name and image and the Participating School’s name and image in any publicity material. If there is a genuine privacy issue with publicising an Entrant’s identity this must be disclosed on the entry form. LCC collects personal information about the Entrant to enable the Entrant to participate in the Competition. Information supplied when lodging an entry form will be used by LCC to contact the Entrant in the event the Entrant’s entry is selected as the winning entry. Personal information collected during registration will not be shared outside LCC.
