Autism Advisory and Support Service (AASS) was established in 2007 by a group of parents from South Western Sydney to fill the void in the health care sector encountered by families of children with Autism.

AASS was established as a support and network and advisory service to empower children with Autism and their families through knowledge and support, and to positively impact and influence their children's social and emotional development

AASS has the legal status as a not for profit incorporated charity. AASS relies on funding grants, donations and sponsorships to meet its operational costs. Despite these financial obstacles AASS has grown in size and been able to expand its range of service delivery. Services include:

Learning Links

Learning Links works in collaboration with schools, early childhood settings and parents to help children with learning disabilities and difficulties.

These include conditions such as ADHD, high functioning Autism, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, fine and gross motor delays and speech and language delays. The children are often anxious, have trouble communicating and interacting with others, and many have behavioural issues. In the later years they are often challenged in literacy, numeracy and impacting on their ability to complete education and participate in the community.

They offer services such as:

  • Counselling (child and parent)

CatholicCare

CatholicCare Sydney is the official welfare agency of the Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of Sydney, delivering more than 140 programs in the areas of ageing, dementia and disability care; employment, education, training and support services; and children, youth and family services.

Disability Support services provide support to families with children with disabilities as well as help navigating the National Disability Insurance Scheme. They offer flexible respite for children and adults with a disability aged 0-65

CatholicCare Sydney is a registered provider of disability services under the NDIS and is ready to support your choices!

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is one of the largest reforms in Australia’s history. It will see hundreds of thousands of Australians with significant and permanent disability and their families and carers given choice and flexibility to live the lives they choose.

Disability Services Australia

Disability Services Australia is a registered NDIS service provider with experience in the Hunter trial site and a strong presence in Sydney’s south west. They offer a range of services which help people to live the life they choose at home and in the community, through training and education and through employment.

DSA’s Specialist Intervention Service specialises in intervention & consultancy services for children, adolescents and adults with a disability and their families.

Their trans-disciplinary team of consultants includes psychologists, speech pathologists, special educators and social workers who are experienced in providing clinical support to people with developmental, physical, psychiatric, and neurological disabilities.

Their early childhood intervention services for children aged 0 - 6 years include:

Fairstart Early Intervention-  Fairfield City Council

Fairstart Early Intervention provides a range of intervention supports that are designed to meet the individual needs of the child, their families and communities, in order to promote development, wellbeing and community participation.

Fairstart works in partnership with families and service providers to support the development and inclusion of young children with disabilities in their natural environments and in their everyday experiences and activities.

Fairstart Early Intervention assists families to learn how to support and nurture their child’s development, and how to adapt positively to having a child with a disability or a developmental delay. Families are empowered to embrace this crucial period of early childhood development by providing positive learning experiences that lay the foundations of future development.

Fairstart Early Intervention:

  • Provides information and support that addresses the individual needs of the child and family
  • Delivers regular play-based education and therapy sessions based on the individualised family service plan (IFSP) and individual educational plan (IEP)
  • Administers standardised and play-based assessments for children
  • Provides transition support for children and their families to the next educational setting
  • Supports families to access other services
  • Collaborates with local early childhood education and care services, other child and family services and the broader community to improve access and participation of children with disabilities and developmental delays
  • Provides translation and interpretation services for families where English is not the first language

KidsXpress

KidsXpress is a program that addresses the link between childhood trauma and adverse life outcomes. The KidsXpress Group Expressive Therapy Program utilises music, art, drama and play therapies to help children address traumatic life challenges. Fully approved as an Evidence-Based Program by the DSS, and facilitated by qualified therapists, this targeted group-based program enables children to express themselves in a safe and supported space. Delivered weekly over a school term, participation is by referral only.

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a national framework designed to support people living with disability and their families by ensuring they have access to the services they require. Under the scheme Koorana looks forward to being able to continue to provide quality, specialised support to even more children, young people and their families throughout the Inner West and South West areas of Sydney.

Mission Australia is a non-denominational Christian community service organisation that has been helping people to regain their independence for over 155 years.

They offer a wide range of integrated solutions over the long term, through homelessness initiatives and affordable housing, early learning and youth services, family support, and employment and skills development. Their nationwide team of over 3,500 staff uses different approaches, often applied in unison and inspired by Christian values. Services in the Liverpool area include:

  • Happy Healthy Minds (the Liverpool Family Mental Health Service) is an early intervention program that provides free short term and long term assistance to children and young people living in the Liverpool local government area at risk of or affected by a mental health problem. In addition to individual counselling, the Happy Healthy Minds team also offer universal and targeted group programs aimed at increasing knowledge and skills to support improved   health and wellbeing that include building resilience, reducing anxiety and tackling bullying.
  • Communities for Children (C4C) is an early intervention program for children aged 0-12 years and their families in the 2168 postcode which aims to support the building blocks of health and wellbeing for a happy and healthy life. In addition to working with government, non-government and community organisation to improve   the quality and delivery of services to children and families in the 2168 area, C4C funds ‘Community Partners’ to deliver a wide range of activities that support early childhood development, school readiness, early literacy, parenting skills, and address the effects of trauma.
