Liverpool Council wins major award for our Experience the World cultural program.

Liverpool City Council has won a prestigious Local Government award for its outstanding Experience the World cultural events program.

The Council won the Premier’s 2024 Business Excellence – Local Government Medal at this year’s Harmony Dinner and Multicultural Medal Awards in a glittering event at the International Conference Centre at Darling Harbour last night.

In 2023, Council launched ‘Experience the World’, a series of seven major cultural events that celebrate Liverpool’s diversity, support intercultural understanding, and provide new migrant communities the opportunity to celebrate and retain their identity. SBS is the 2024 event partner for Liverpool Council’s upcoming event Most Blessed Nights.

Liverpool is one of the most culturally rich areas in Australia and includes people from 140 different backgrounds, speaking more than 80 languages.

Liverpool Mayor Ned Mannoun who accepted the award said it was an honour for Liverpool Council to win this award from a strong field of nominees.

“Putting on events like this is no small feat and takes a small army of dedicated workers to make it happen and I congratulate every one of them as they share in this success, the mayor said.

“So successful are these events, they attracted more than 400,000 people to Macquarie Mall in the heart of our CBD,” he said.

The program of seven events across the year celebrates the diverse nature of the Liverpool community and includes:

  • Lanterns and Lights celebrating Asian culture.
  • Most Blessed Nights celebrating Ramadan, Easter, and Passover.
  • Primavera which is a Latin American themed festival.
  • Motherland Africa Festival.
  • Starry Sari Night celebrating the Indian/sub-continental culture.
  • Pasifika celebrating the Pacific Islands; and
  • European Winter Blast Night Market celebrating European winter.

Council is also excited to welcome SBS as a sponsor of our latest cultural event Most Blessed Nights which started last night and will run until April 7.
