Liverpool Mayor Ned Mannoun has been joined by the Prime Minister the Hon Anthony Albanese in officially opening Liverpool Council’s new building Civic Place.
The Prime Minister and the mayor unveiled a plaque before a ribbon cutting with the local councillors and the Council CEO to declare the building officially open.
“This is an exciting time for Liverpool and the City Council,” the mayor said.
“This building is a vote of confidence by the council in the future of Liverpool and an investment by council that reinforces its commitment to the future of Liverpool as Australia’s next global city,” Mr Mannoun said.
The $220 million state of the art building at 50 Scott Street will revitalise the Liverpool CBD and be the catalyst for further redevelopment in the city.
“This moment marks not only the physical manifestation of our city's progress but also a symbol of our collective vision for a brighter future,” Mr Mannoun said.
“Civic Place represents more than just bricks and mortar; it embodies the spirit of community, innovation, and inclusivity that defines Liverpool.”
It stands as a testament to our commitment to serving the needs of our residents and enhancing the quality of life for all who call this city home.
“Council staff will move into the new building on Monday April 8 allowing us to centralise Council’s operations and streamline essential services to the community,” the mayor said.
The 11 storey building will not only house council staff but also commercial tenants.
Council’s new chambers were opened earlier this year and the new library – Yellamundie – opened in December last year and already has attracted thousands of visitors.
