Mayor Ned Mannoun calls for express train from Liverpool to Bankstown to connect to the Metro

Liverpool City Mayor Councillor Ned Mannoun today called for an express train shuttle service to Bankstown to connect the south-west to the new metro rail linking Bankstown to the Sydney CBD.

"An express shuttle service from Liverpool to Bankstown will link south-west Sydney to the new metro rail network with fast access to good jobs and business investment," Mayor Mannoun said.

Addressing a Business Western Sydney Roundtable in the presence of Transport Minister Jo Haylen, Mr Mannoun said he was disappointed the government had cancelled the planned extension of the metro to Liverpool.

“Without the metro being extended to Liverpool, there is a desperate need for a high-speed connection between Liverpool and Bankstown,” the mayor said.

Mr Mannoun said with the Western Sydney International Airport opening in two years, there needs to be greater connectivity to the Aerotropolis.

The mayor also called for express bus services or trackless trams from Liverpool to the Airport.

With the airport expected to handle five million passengers in its first year, the need for first class transport links is overwhelming.

Improved transport links not only benefit commuters, but they also drive economic activity creating job opportunities and tourism, the mayor said.
