Liverpool City Council will return to a full face-to-face school holiday program this summer after COVID-19-related stay-at-home orders forced activities and workshops to migrate online.
Developed in partnership with Liverpool City Library, Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre and Liverpool Regional Museum, the comprehensive program includes more than 20 different free school holiday activities to choose from.
Mayor of Liverpool Ned Mannoun said Council has worked hard to develop a holiday program that will captivate students of all ages whatever their interest – from arts and crafts and music to sports and technology.
“We are delighted to be able to provide an environment that fosters the minds and interests of Liverpool’s youngest generations.
“While we were still able to provide an online school holiday program throughout the COVID-19 lockdown, we know that nothing compares to being on a court, field or in an arts space with your mates.
“Being able to host our school holidays program in a face-to-face capacity is not only special for the students but our facilitators and venues who look forward to this throughout the year.
“We have a strong commitment to the hardworking parents of Liverpool and know how important it is for them to find ways to keep the kids entertained without blowing the budget.
“Therefore, I encourage parents to head to Council’s website to see the range of activities on offer focusing on fun, learning and physical activity,” Mayor Mannoun said.
For students ages six and up, Council’s program features skateboarding and basketball workshops, an interactive gaming bus, a giant inflatable obstacle course and a session of Hexagol – an innovative and exciting way to refine football skills using against-the-clock challenges.
This summer Edwin Wheeler Reserve in Sadleir will be home to a dedicated school holiday fun day with laser tag, giant yard games and football and cricket clinics. A free lunch will be provided to all those who attend on the day.
This will be complemented by Liverpool City Library workshops and classes where students can develop a new hobby or skill from Chess to Kung Fu, Forensic Science to 3D printing or coding a musical instrument to creating fairy doors.
Meanwhile, Liverpool Regional Museum is encouraging students aged between 9 – 14 to become a part of its Curator and Collector Camp to learn the ins and outs of collecting and collections. For students looking for a more creative outlet, there are workshops on story writing and arts and crafts inspired by the Museum’s permanent Resonances exhibition.
There is also no shortage of creative programs on at Casula Powerhouse with six workshops suitable for those aged six and above focusing on clay making, movie and music making, photography and anime drawing.
