Dr James Pirie Community Centre

Cnr Moore and Bigge Street, Liverpool

Not for Casual Hire

The Dr Pirie Centre (formerly the Dr Pirie Memorial Infant Welfare Centre) was used not only as a healthcare facility (containing baby health care and doctors’ consulting rooms), but also as a social welfare resource providing respite to mothers in the form of a mother’s rest room and occasional care services. The Centre also played an educational role in the local community for mothers and children and included a children’s library. The Dr Pirie Centre’s popularity and the ever increasing populace saw necessary additions in 1969 to meet the local demand for the services it provided.

In 1990 disabled access was provided to the building. The centre continues to be used as a community welfare resource and houses educational and care services.
